Highest Israeli
box office gross of the past 20 years!
Jewish
cultures from around the world clash in the 1960s when two immigrant families –
one from Morocco and the other from India – become neighbours in a tiny Israeli
village in the Negev Desert. With only poverty and devotion to their homelands
in common, they are brought together by the unlikely friendship of their
daughters: sultry Moroccan Nicole (Neta Garty) and thoughtful Indian Sara
(Liraz Charchi). The women’s youth and lust for freedom overcome cultural
prejudices. For these two communities and two friends, the road to harmony is
full of twists and turns both humorous and heartwarming.
Acclaimed
director Avi Nesher (Dizengoff 99, The Troupe [Israel]; Time Bomb, Taxman [U.S.]) created this award-winning film.
“****…With
intelligent direction and an excellent script, this film is delightful and
entertaining” – Yediot Acharonot (Israel’s largest circulation newspaper)
“****…A
cinematic gem by the stunningly talented Avi Nesher. Funny and touching” –
Maariv (Israel’s major daily newspaper)
